Our rehearsals take place on most Thursday evenings during the school year, from 7.45pm to 9.45pm at St Mary’s Church, Wakehurst Drive, Southgate, Crawley RH10 6DL, with parking in Southgate Primary School playground, off Collier Row, opposite the church.
We start with a vocal ‘warm up’ and then Sam takes us through the music for that week. We have a short break halfway through, which gives us a chance to socialise. Our members are just ordinary people from a wide range of backgrounds, of varying ages, shapes and sizes, who share a common love of music. Some are very experienced, and some are fairly new to choral singing. Not all members can read music – it is not essential but it is very useful to know at least the basics. There are plenty of online resources available to help singers to learn their part, so we offer advice and encourage members to make use of these. The choir is run by a committee of dedicated people, each with their own particular area of responsibility.
As well as making sure the rehearsals run smoothly, and planning and preparing for our concerts, the committee organise other events from time to time, such as social evenings or singing workshops.
